A young girl fights for her life after she's attacked by a dog. It's a story unfolding in the town of Kansas, in Delaware County.

Authorities say Cianna Crittenden (baby picture on left) wandered out of her mother's sight and into a neighbor's yard. The dog, a pit bull mix, was chained to a tree. But Cianna got too close. Victimâ€™s cousin Emma Parsons: "And I looked out and all I could see was the dog had her by the back of the neck and was just tearing into her."

Cianna's mother pulled her away, but not before the damage was done. Family members say the dog tore into the back of her neck and may have injured her spinal cord.

Cianna has had to undergo plastic surgery. The dog's owner is having it destroyed.

Local firefighters have set up a fund for Cianna's family at Arvest Bank.
