Inspectors say Hill sold surplus equipment from Tinker Air Force Base without scrubbing data

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Pentagon says officials at Oklahoma City's Tinker Air Force Base and three other facilities often approved selling surplus equipment without removing classified data or components.

The equipment included guidance and control systems for missiles, infrared or laser tracking systems, safety and arming devices.

Some items were caught by inspectors before sales occurred but others were sold.

Inspectors say they found scores of errors in spot checks at the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center at Tinker Air Force Base. Similar errors were found at bases in Texas, Utah and Georgia.

The information comes from Air Force Audit Agency reports obtained by the Deseret Morning News in Salt Lake City.
