Governor Brad Henry took a first hand look Thursday at the most recent destruction in our state caused by the wildfires.

He went on an aerial tour Thursday afternoon and landed in Ardmore. There, he got lessons in how fire retardant chemicals work when they are dropped from the air. He also met with rural firefighters to see what needs they have.

Governor Brad Henry: "appreciate them to assure them state level, federal level we're here to support them."

A FEMA coordinator also toured with the governor Thursday. Henry said he's trying to get more federal assistance for more counties.

FEMA says they will stay in the Sooner state as long as needed to assess all the damage.
