Investigators say a bone they thought may have been linked to a missing Muskogee girl is not human.

The State Medical Examiner's Office has determined the bone found in a dried-up swamp east of Summit last week is an animal bone. Investigators had hoped the discovery of the bone and a rifle in the swamp last month were connected to the 1997 disappearance of Jamie Michelle McChurin.

McChurin was 16 when she was last seen in Muskogee.
