A Sperry firefighter says he has a lot to be thankful for despite losing his own home in this week's wildfires.
Chad Martin is a firefighter with the Sperry Volunteer Fire Department. Sunday, he battled fires for five hours only to learn that his own home was destroyed by flames.
Even though Martin has seen hundreds of fires, he was in disbelief, but he says he's thankful his family wasn't injured.
"I knew my family was safe and that's what mattered to me. And I knew I would be taken care of in the long run. I was just worried about helping the community out and taking care of the people out there that needed help more than I do."
The Martin family is staying with family members who live nearby.
