OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A state lawmaker says deteriorating weigh stations may be allowing unsafe trucks to travel Oklahoma's roads and highways.

Representative Fred Perry of Tulsa says the state hasn't properly maintained its weigh stations with up-to-date technology.

Now, Perry says, overweight trucks are beating up Oklahoma roads. Others are looking for alternate routes to avoid Oklahoma, which is costing the state revenue.

The Department of Transportation says most Oklahoma weigh stations were built with the highway system in the 1950s and '60s with no renovations since completion.

Perry says he wants to find revenue to build new weigh stations and refurbish the state's oversize/overweight permit system to help keep Oklahoma citizens safe.
