Mayes County is the 18th Oklahoma county to be certified storm ready by the National Weather Service.

The Storm-Ready program gives communities the skills and education needed to survive a storm.

In order to be storm ready, a community must have a several ways to receive severe weather warnings and to alert the public to a threat.
