OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State lawmakers want to know why Oklahoma ranks near the bottom in the number of children who get their recommended vaccination dosages before the age of two.
State Representative Joe Dorman of Rush Springs sought an interim study of the issue after a college student in his district was diagnosed with meningitis in 2003.
Dorman says he hopes the study by the state House's Health and Human Services Committee will shine light on the need for Oklahomans to protect themselves against preventable diseases by getting vaccinations.
Dorman says it's vital that citizens be informed about getting vaccinated against certain diseases. He says most diseases are easily preventable if the necessary steps are taken to educate parents and young people.
