MURFREESBORO, Ark. (AP) -- An Arkansas jury convicts an Oklahoma man on two counts of capital murder in the shooting deaths of two Arkansas women last year.
A Pike County jury Tuesday found 31-year-old Mickey Thomas of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, guilty of the execution-style murders of Mona Lee Shelton and Donna Marie Cary of Sevier County.
Circuit Judge Charles Yeargan ordered the sentencing phase begin Thursday. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
Broken Bow resident Geraldine Jones was killed in Oklahoma on June 12th, 2004. Two days later, Shelton and Cary were shot outside Shelton's store in De Queen, Cornerstone Monuments.
Thomas is charged for all three murders by authorities in both states. He underwent a mental evaluation last year, which found him fit for trial.
