NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Norman Police say an officer shot and killed a teenager early Monday after the boy escaped from a juvenile detention facility, robbed a convenience store and led police on a chase.
The teenager's name hasn't been released. Police spokeswoman Jennifer Newell says only that he was old enough to drive.
Newell says the boy allegedly robbed a 7-11 about 4:15 Monday morning, then was spotted in a stolen pickup truck by police who chased him through Norman and onto Interstate 35.
Newell says the chase ended in south Oklahoma City when the officer was able to bump the truck and send it out of control. The teen then got out and confronted the officer who shot and killed him.
Newell says the teenager was one of four people who escaped from the Alan J- Couch Detention Center in Norman Sunday night. She says the other three were arrested by Cleveland County deputies.
