HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) _ A scenic byway that winds through the Ouchita National Forest in southeast Oklahoma and southwest Arkansas has been officially dubbed a National Scenic Byway.
Known as the Talimena Scenic Byway, the 54-mile stretch was one of 45 roadways given the special designation during a ceremony Thursday in Washington, DC.
The roadway takes its name from the communities of Talihina in southeastern Oklahoma and Mena in western Arkansas.
With the official designation, officials say the byway is eligible for additional funding, national marketing and support for road upgrades.
