You may start noticing more motorcycles on Oklahoma roads. More people are buying motorcycles and scooters as a way to cope with the high cost of gas.

News on 6 anchor Craig Day has more on the motorcycle mania. Like many cycle shops and dealerships, business is booming at Ron's Cycleland in Tulsa. It really picked up when the price of gas started climbing. Sam Newton with Ron's Cycleland: "The phone rings, you're with a customer. The phone rings again. People coming in. It's really, really busy."

Ron's Cycleland says they can hardly keep new motorcycles in stock and many people who are looking for savings at the pump are bringing in old bikes to be worked on. "One guy brought one in; it had been stored in his backyard for 15 years. He wanted it fixed. Our mechanics are good enough they mainly rebuild most of them." Many motorcycles get between 50 and 100 miles per gallon. When you start to do the math, it really adds up.

“I bought it about four days ago." That savings prompted Reid Scocos to buy a new Honda Scooter. "It holds 1.3 gallons of gas. 1.3 gallons of gas, it will take you all week to get rid of that 1.3 gallons of gas. That's what I'm talking about." Scocus is now saving big bucks and expects his new scooter to pay for itself in a matter of months.

With the price of gas so high and future fuel costs uncertain, the boom in bikes isn't expected to slow down anytime soon.
