Communities all across America kicked off the Jumpstart Read for the Record program Thursday.
People gathered to read "The Little Engine That Could" to students and preschoolers.
The News on 6 found Tulsa Public School's new superintendent's wife reading to the children at Hawthorne Elementary.
Each child received their own copy of the book and Donna Zolkoski hopes that will encourage parents to read with their kids. "I would love for their parents to read with them every night, every time they have a chance. It's the most important thing you can do with your child."
