The Tulsa Police Department’s bomb squad has an increased presence at Tulsa’s International Airport in light of the latest terror threat.
News on 6 anchor Terry Hood sat down with the head of Tulsa's bomb squad and says the squad always has technicians and bomb sniffing dogs canvassing the airport, but early Thursday morning the Transportation Security Administration asked for more.
Tulsa Police Major Dennis Larsen says anytime TSA asks for extra help, the Tulsa bomb squad is ready. Larsen says Tulsa Police answered the call and extra bomb technicians were in place just after 2 AM.
The bomb squad is used as a backup to Tulsa's TSA screeners. Bomb technicians and explosive sniffing dogs are brought in anytime a screener finds something suspicious. "If they identify something and they're not comfortable with it. And the next level is to have a bomb technician come up and look at and say yes it could be or no it couldn't be. If they say it could be, then the tests are bought out."
Those tests can positively identify liquid explosives and the ingredients used to make them.
Bomb experts throughout the country say these explosives are nothing new and they're easy to get your hands on which makes them especially frightening.
