WOODWARD, Okla. (AP) _ Prosecutors rest their case in the preliminary hearing of a woman charged with first-degree murder in the disappearance of her six-year-old son.
The youngest son of Katherine Rutan, also known as Katherine Pollard, took the stand yesterday, testifying that he remembered when his mother made him stay in the car while she dropped off his brother, Logan, one day in 2002. Justin Dagget said he never saw his older brother again.
Prosecutors allege Rutan killed Logan Tucker on June 23rd of that year, put his body in a suitcase and threw it in the county landfill. Logan has never been found.
Also testifying were former employees of Rutan's brother, Brian Marquardt. Prosecutors say Rutan told investigators that Marquardt took her son to Vermont or Pennsylvania, but the ex-workers testified that they never saw a child with Marquardt during that period.
Woodward County Sheriff's Captain Shaun Barnett testified he was one of the two original officers who responded to a welfare check on Logan at the request of Rutan's brother, Mickey Lee Cathcart.
Barnett says Rutan told him that Logan was with Marquardt.
