Team Of Players Win Lottery Prize

There are always more losers than winners in the Oklahoma Lottery, but this time there's quite a few winners as well. News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan has the story of a team effort to win the lottery.

At Factor One Racing in Broken Arrow there's almost always a friendly gathering. Kenny Hall: â€œIt's always fun to come down here and hang out with race car people."

This set of friends and coworkers all have racing in common. And they all play the lottery together. Frank Hunter: "I play with a group I don't buy an individual ticket."

And last week - they won the lottery. Robert Adair: "It's great, it's money you're not expecting and you're just jumping for joy." It wasn't the jackpot, which would have been millions. But they matched five of the six numbers in the Powerball Lottery to win $200,000.

Sharrie McDougal: "It's not life changing, but good enough to make you feel real good." The lottery folks handed them one of those big ceremonial checks, divided it ten ways and took out the taxes. Each winner got $14,200.

The folks at Factor One Racing know all about winning at team sports. They say one of the best things about winning the lottery is that they did it together. Kevin Bayer: "A lot of people are coming in and congratulating us, it's really neat."

Each member of the group puts $20 a month into a lottery pool. They buy their tickets at a Fiesta Mart just down the street and let the computer pick the numbers. Frank Hunter: "My heart really started beating, it's really exciting." And this time it picked some winners.

And that other winning lottery ticket in Broken Arrow has yet to be claimed. It was for $100-million and was drawn back in June.
