Charges Filed In Connection With A Fatal Accident On The Creek Turnpike

Tulsa County prosecutors have filed criminal charges against at least one teenager Friday in connection with a fatal traffic accident on the Creek Turnpike. The charges were filed in Tulsa County Juvenile Court.

News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan says the chief of the criminal division of the Tulsa County District Attorney's office announced Friday afternoon, charges have been filed - but because of privacy laws shielding juvenile court action - he couldn't say anything more.

He did say the family of the victim was contacted and consulted about the charges. From the announcement of the DA's office, though, it sounds like more than one person may face charges.

The accident was July 12th on the Creek Turnpike, just west of US Highway 75. Two SUV's full of football players were headed home from a paintball game when one of the SUV's crossed the median and rolled over. The accident killed 17 year old Garrett Bennett. He was thrown out of the vehicle.

The criminal charges stem from witness reports that a passenger in one vehicle was shooting paintballs at the other vehicle - and that both vehicles were speeding and swerving around traffic. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol report said no paintballs were fired from the vehicle that crashed.

There were two underage boys in the vehicle from which the paint ball shots were fired - driver Eric Davis, 17, and a passenger Brad Regal, 16.

We don't know who is facing charges - or what those charges will be, but the DA's office confirms no adult charges have been filed, so that would exclude the other passenger, 18 year old Keith Mefford.
