MADILL, Okla. (AP) -- Five people, including two children, were killed Friday in a head-on collision along U.S. Highway 70 in southern Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
The two cars collided shortly after 11 AM, pinning seven people inside the wreckage, said OHP Lt. Pete Norwood.
Norwood said six people in a Pontiac Grand Am were returning from a church camp when the car collided with a Chevrolet Corsica that was heading to the church camp.
The 52-year-old driver of the Chevrolet was killed, along with a 5-year-old, a 12-year-old, a 32-year-old and a 57-year-old in the other vehicle, Norwood said.
The surviving victims -- ages 10 and 33 -- were taken by helicopter to hospital. Their condition was not immediately known. The names and gender of the victims also were not released, pending notification of relatives.
None of the people in the Pontiac were wearing seat belts, and the 5-year-old was not in a child safety seat, Norwood said.
"You never get used to accidents like this one," Norwood said. "It's a shame. Any time there's a child involved in an accident, you think of your kids back home."
