With the nice weather forecast for the upcoming holiday weekend, many people will be headed to the lake, pool or river.

Officials hope the 4th of July weekend is nothing like this past Memorial Day weekend. That's because nine people died in water-related accidents in Oklahoma over Memorial Day. So Thursday, Tulsa's Safe Kids Coalition along with the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Oklahoma Lake Patrol held a news conference begging Oklahomans to use common sense.

According to Earl Groves with the US Army Corps of Engineers, their main message was, "take your lifejacket with you and wear them, wear them, wear them. Second thing, watch your kids."

Of the nine people who drowned over Memorial Day weekend, none of them were wearing lifejackets.

A warning for parents, drowning is the number 2 injury-related killer of children ages 1 to 14.
