Some Oklahoma National Guard soldiers are undergoing some intense training and the News on 6 went along.

Members of the 145th Cavalry put their lives on hold and traveled to Arkansas for training to protect our country.

During a mock ambush, not only did the troops take on enemy fire, but a simulated roadside bomb also exploded. They say it's very close to what they'd experience in Iraq or Afghanistan.

1,500 soldiers are taking part in the training.
