Billy Gene Marshall is already behind bars for brutally beating and robbing a woman at a North Tulsa store, is now accused of beating a 68-year-old man to death.

Police believe these two attacks were committed in the same way and that's how they're linking Marshall to the crime. They say the worker at J and J appliance store was attacked by a man with a hammer. Police say a medical examination shows Alonzo Tibb's junior could have also died from wounds caused by a hammer.

Tulsa police added a first degree murder complaint late Friday night against Billy Gene Marshall.
Marshall was already behind bars, accused of brutally beating a mother of five with a hammer and robbing the J and J appliance store.

Now its that unusual weapon, a hammer that could link Marshall to murder. Alonzo Tibbs Junior was found dead near a broken window, in his home Wednesday evening. At first, investigators thought his death could have been an accident, but they later ruled it a homicide because of blood and trauma to the victim.

A police report says investigators couldn't find Tibbs' wallet or credit cards at the scene, so they think he could have been killed for money. It also says the medical examiner found that Tibbs' head wounds could have been caused by a hammer. Police say in that report Marshall used to live across the street from Tibbs, and even borrowed mony from him in the past. The report goes on to say officers searched Marshall's former home and found bloody clothing, Tibbs' wallet and credit cards.

I checked with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Billy Gene Marshall was convicted of four counts of robbery and burglary back in the 1980s. He was sentenced to 25 years, but only spent 14 in prison. Ashli Sims, The News on 6.
