TULSA, Okla. (AP) A Tulsa linebacker lands on the preseason watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award.

Officials for the award that honors the nation's outstanding defensive player of the year announced yesterday that Nick Bunting is among those on the list. Bunting also was named to the preseason watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which also honors the nation's top defensive player.

Bunting has played and started in 36 games, getting 252 career tackles, 21-point-five stops and seven career double-figure tackle games.

Twelve semifinalists will be announced in October and the field will be trimmed to three finalists the following month.

The winner will be announced at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show in December.
