The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma kicked off National Hunger Awareness Day Tuesday by opening its new facility.

The new Donald W Reynolds Food Distribution Center is two and a half times bigger than the current Food Bank. The extra space will allow for a new training center, commercial kitchen and more programs.

The Food Bank also announced a food-raising victory Tuesday, 3-million pounds of food. Food Bank executive director Sara Waggoner: "We're really grateful to the community, because we couldn't have done it without the food industry and without the individual people doing food drives and making contributions."

The Food Bank distributes enough food each month for more than half a million meals.
