Tulsa Sex Crimes detectives say they're noticing a disturbing trend, stranger rapes are on the rise.
There have been at least three recent cases in south Tulsa. The first was in late April near 88th and Lewis. Another happened two weeks ago near 78th and Riverside. And early Friday morning, at the same apartment complex, a 19-year old woman was assaulted in her bed.
News on 6 reporter Heather Lewin says Tulsa Police have only a vague description of Friday morning's suspect and are concerned he may strike again.
It happened around 3 AM. The victim was sleeping in her apartment. Police say she woke up to find a man on top of her. She struggled with the suspect who hit her several times, raped her and went out the front door. Tulsa Police Sgt. Gary Stansill: "We wanna forewarn people there could be more, there may not be another attack by this individual, but stranger rape cases tend to become more serial oriented than others."
Just a week and a half before, another suspect kicked in a door and raped a woman at the same complex. Tulsa Police arrested Adrian Jenkins. Investigators say he's also the prime suspect in an April 22nd attack a few blocks away.
Tulsa Police think Friday’s suspect came in through an unlocked window. Other than being a heavyset man they don't have much of a description. The say it was so dark in the apartment, the victim just didn't get a good look at him.
