OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A bill that seeks to improve child abuse protections wins final legislative approval in the state Senate.
The Kelsey Smith-Briggs Child Protection Act was named in memory of a 2-year-old victim of child abuse from Meeker.
It passed the state Senate without opposition and now goes to Governor Brad Henry, who is expected to sign it into law.
Kelsey died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen on October 11th while her care was being monitored by child welfare workers. The state Medical Examiner's Office said her body was covered with bruises.
The child's stepfather and mother both face charges in her death.
