Violence in Tulsa has jumped over the last couple of days. News on 6 reporter Heather Lewin explains why police feel it is not as bad as it could be.

Tulsa Police have made an arrest in connection with Tulsa's latest homicide. The elderly victim was found by his son Sunday night. Tulsa Police say the motive may have been robbery.

The next day, another attack put a Tulsa businessman in the hospital. It happened in broad daylight at an East Admiral furniture store. Customers found the 56-year old victim unconscious. Again, Tulsa Police suspect a robbery.

Monday afternoon, officers were called to a double shooting outside a west Tulsa convenience store. And detectives are still investigating the stabbing of two people early Tuesday morning at a South Newport apartment complex.

Tulsa Police Sgt Mike Huff: "The weather is warming up the end of the school year is coming forward, this is a trend that you kinda see year to year."

Despite the past few days, Huff says a recent stretch without any homicides or major incidents has Tulsa's homicide rate lower than it could be.

He gives Operation Bullet Trap much of the credit. “Cases change or are updated minute by minute and to get the timely information out to the uniform officers on the street is always a challenge and I think that's really been helped out a bit by this program."

The arrest in the elderly man's death marks the 31st homicide of the year, almost halfway to last year's total of 64. "There's nothing going on right now that's making the city more violent than any other major city."

Operation Bullet Trap officers have made more than 120 arrests, from violent crime to drugs and weapons offenses.
