QUANTICO, Va. (AP) -- An Edmond native who is director of the FBI laboratory in Quantico, Virginia, and helped pioneer use of DNA evidence in criminal cases is retiring Friday.

Dwight Adams will return to his hometown and become director of the new Forensic Science Institute at the University of Central Oklahoma.

Adams is a 1973 graduate of Edmond High School and has been with the FBI since 1983. He was part of the team that developed standards for using DNA evidence and was the first FBI scientist to testify in court about a DNA test result.

He starts his new job at UCO on July 1st.
