EMS workers, police officers and firefighters are working together as part of Tulsa's new "Urban Search and Rescue Team".

The group held a disaster drill Monday at an abandoned warehouse at 118 North Lansing. Using tools not available to normal rescue crews, they practiced shoring up walls and rescuing victims.

Tulsa Fire’s Homeland Security Chief Dennis Beyer: "whether the damage comes from manmade explosive device or a tornado, this team would be the team that would respond to go in and rescue the folks that your ordinary or everyday responders don't have the capability to do."

The team members take an 80-hour course. The group will get an urban search and rescue trailer and other new equipment early next year.
