CUSHING, Okla. (AP) -- A federal agency says a former oil refinery in Cushing is no long a health risk to residents in the area.

A study by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry says chemicals that caused health risks at the Hudson Refinery have been removed.

The reduced health threat is a step toward removing the refinery site from the Environmental Protection Agency's Superfund list.

The 200-acre refinery on state Highway 33 was operated by several companies from 1922 to 1982. About $20-million have been spent by the federal and state governments to clean up more than 70 hazardous materials at the site.

Cushing City Commissioner Rodger Floyd says officials eventually hope to develop the land into commercial property.
