The westbound lanes of I-44 in Tulsa was shut down for a time Tuesday morning after a driver ran into the back of an 18-wheeler near Sheridan.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the driver of the van hit the semi while going more than 55 MPH and was pinned under the flat bed trailer. The 18-wheeler pulled over, dragging the van another 100 feet.
Traffic was stopped while Tulsa firefighters cut the driver of the van out of his vehicle.
Two Good Samaritans on their way to work stopped to help. Anthony Adkins: “I pulled over real quick, grabbed some tools out of the back of the car since I was on my way to work, and started going at it. Trying to pull him out. We got a major part of that door off but it got stuck on the lock."
21-year-old Travis Smith of Sapulpa was taken to a Tulsa hospital. He is listed in stable condition. The driver of the 18-wheeler wasn't hurt.
