OKEMAH, Okla. (AP) -- Okfuskee County Sheriff James C. "Muggs" Fox has died after a battle with cancer.
The 70-year-old Fox died Sunday in Oklahoma City.
The 30-year veteran of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol became Okfuskee County's sheriff in 2001. Fox was re-elected in 2004 but soon was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Despite his declining health, Fox continued working until his death.
His son, Jason Fox, also joined the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and was honored Thursday as the state's 2005 trooper of the year.
