OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The budget director for the Oklahoma House says he's stepping down from the House staff to seek the chairmanship of the Oklahoma Republican Party.
Tom Daxon is a certified public accountant and a former Republican nominee for governor.
Oklahoma GOP Chairman Gary Jones announced earlier this month he is resigning.
Daxon says he'll step down immediately to campaign for the position, which will be decided on April 22nd at the Republican State Committee meeting.
Daxon says Republicans haven't been critical enough about Democratic Governor Brad Henry's fiscal policies and called Henry's proposed executive budget for 2007, ``a liberal, tax-and-spend budget.''
