By any standard, it's a monstrous case of animal abuse. 9 puppies and one dog, beaten, strangled, and shot to death.Amazingly one survived.

News on 6 reporter Steve Berg talked with the teenager who found the dogs and who says the people who did this need to be caught.

Darrell Moreau says he and two friends were coming home from a roofing job on a remote stretch of 66th Street North, west of Mingo. "We came past this exact area. I saw something out of the corner of my eye, and I thought it was a dead deer. And then my friend Corey, he says man, stop, that's not a deer."

Moreau says at first they thought somebody had discarded some stolen purses, then they realized the awful truth. "It's beyond me that anyone could even do this really to even attempt or think about. I couldn't even think about doing something like that."

Someone or some people had tortured the helpless animals over and over and over again until all the dogs were dead, except for one. "And all of sudden we just saw the dog's belly moving, and we thought, he's living." That dog has been named Hope. She's at a westside Tulsa vet clinic, but a bullet wound has left her paralyzed on her left side. Doctors haven't decided yet if her quality of life will be good enough or if it's better to put her down.

"The brutality of how they disposed of the puppies, they weren't just destroyed. It looks like they were tortured, stomped on. One of them's little noses is half-gone, it's teeth are busted out of its mouth." Alicia Lee with Animal Aid, a non-profit rescue group, has seen cases of animal abuse before, but never this bad. â€œThis is brutal, this is scary to know that there are people out there that would do this to an animal."

Darrell Moreau: "Psychotic I'd have to say. I don't mean to, but that's what it is."

Anyone with information about who did this is asked to call Animal Aid at 744-8280. There's a $1,000 reward.
