FEMA to provide temporary housing to wildfire victims

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Two state congressmen say Oklahomans who lost their homes to wildfires will soon be able to live in temporary housing originally intended for last summer's Gulf Coast hurricane victims.

Representatives Dan Boren and Tom Cole say the Federal Emergency Management Agency plans to make some of the thousands of homes intended for hurricane victims available to hundreds of Oklahoma families.

Many of the destroyed homes are in Boren's 25-county district in eastern Oklahoma. He says some counties had as many as 20 homes destroyed by wildfires.

The temporary housing could be made available within the next two weeks.

More than 300 homes and businesses have been destroyed in wildfires and more than 800 have been damaged since November 1st.
