EDMOND, Okla. (AP) -- Congressman Ernest Istook says that as governor he would work to eliminate the individual income tax in Oklahoma and cut state spending.
Istook is giving up his seat in Congress to run for governor.
He said during a speech in Edmond that the individual state income tax should be reduced each year until it's eliminated. He says the loss of revenue would be offset by the gross production tax that's up significantly because of rising oil prices.
Istook is opposed for the Republican gubernatorial nomination by state Senator James Williamson and oilman Bob Sullivan.
