OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A long-time geophysicist with Phillips Petroleum was named Wednesday as the first dean of the new College of Earth and Energy at the University of Oklahoma.

Larry Grillot will take over as dean on April 1st.

Grillot is a graduate of Mississippi State and holds master's and doctoral degrees from Brown University. He's worked as a geophysicist for Phillips for 30 years.

The College of Earth and Energy was formed in January by combining the Sarkeys Energy Center, the Oklahoma Geological Survey, the Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering and the School of Geology and Geophysics.
