OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The deadline is next week for submitting ideas about what design should be on the back of the Oklahoma state quarter.
The US Treasury is issuing quarters each year that honor every state. Oklahoma's quarter will be issued in early 2008.
Officials hope the design will capture the essence of Oklahoma's first 100 years as a state with Indians, cowboys, the oil industry, farming and ranching and native sons.
But Bob Blackburn with the Oklahoma Historical Society admits putting all that on the back of a quarter probably can't be done.
Ideas submitted so far include oil wells, an image showing the land run and an image of the Pioneer Woman statue that stands in Ponca City.
The proposals will eventually be narrowed to ten finalists and given to Governor Brad Henry. The governor will then submit three to five ideas to the Treasury Department.
