BOULDER, Colo. (AP) _ US Senator James Inhofe has long been a skeptic of global warming. Now he's asking the leading federal climate change center to explain its operations.

The Republican from Tulsa is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. That committee oversees the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado, as well as the University Center for Atmospheric Research.

Inhofe has made a sweeping request for information including salary and job information, a list of research projects and information on competition for the contract to manage the NCAR.

Colorado congressman Mark Udall said some of Inhofe's requests seem inappropriate. Still, officials from the two agencies say they'll try to answer Inhofe's questions.
