Two apartment fires in Tulsa under investigation

Fire rips through a Tulsa apartment complex leaving two families homeless.

A unit at the Monaco Apartments near 51st Street and 73rd East Avenue went up in flames just after 11 PM Tuesday. Two units were destroyed.

Firefighters say it could have been worse. Tulsa Fire Captain Larry Bowles: â€œwe were able to contain that fire to two of the units, it did breach a firewall in the attic portion on the north end and our crews got in and got that stopped.â€

The heat from the fire caused some ammunition to go off in one unit. No one was injured.

Investigators believe a discarded cigarette started the fire.

The Red Cross is helping two families with clothing and food. Damage is estimated at $150,000.

Another fire kept crews busy overnight, this one at the Legacy Apartments near 32nd and Riverside.

The fire happened about 4:30 AM inside the leasing office. The cause is under investigation.

No one was hurt.
