Tulsa County is accepting bids on a $1-million flood control project for north Tulsa.

The project will help relieve flooding at Cherokee Elementary School on North Peoria. The plan is to build a large detention pond to catch overflows from a branch of Bird Creek.

Cherokee Elementary has been plagued by flooding over the years. The oldest part of the school was built in 1920.

Funding comes from the county's "4 to Fix the County" initiative.
