Big changes are underway at Oral Roberts University. The ORU Board of Regents met for a second day on Tuesday. The News On 6's Ashli Sims reports they're hammering out the details of a new plan to restructure the university after accepting a $62 million proposal from Oklahoma City businessman Mart Green.
The multi-million dollar gift from Mart Green comes with some sizeable strings attached. But, the man behind the money says ORU will not become MGU or Mart Green University.
Mart Green made his millions with Hobby Lobby and Mardel Christian bookstores. Now, his latest venture is heading the new board of trustees for Oral Roberts University.
ORU announced late Monday that the school will accept $62 million from the Green family and restructure the university. That means new bylaws and new leadership, including up to 22 trustees. Mart Green insists the university will be run by many leaders, not just him.
"I'll have one vote out of the 22. I'll have a voice and an impact, I'm sure. But, I'm not getting people who will say what I want to say. I want a board that will tell me no, when I need to have no," said ORU Board of Trustees Chairman Mart Green.
Even though the regents' role has changed, they still have work to do. On Tuesday, they were discussing the new bylaws, but the details haven't yet been released.
