½ c. shortening 1 ½ c. granulated sugar 2 eggs 2 tbsp. cocoa ½ tsp. cinnamon 2 c. all-purpose flour 1 ½ tsp. baking soda ½ tsp. salt 2 c. applesauce
Directions:
Preheat oven to350 degrees.
In a large mixing bowl, cream the shortening and sugar; add the eggs and beat well. In a separate bowl, combine the cocoa, cinnamon, flour, baking soda, and salt. Add this to the creamed mixture, then stir in the applesauce. Pour into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan, and bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Allow to cool in pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy!
Optional: Add ½ to 1 cup of chopped nuts, raisins, or dates to the batter before baking.
