An Ottawa County man is in custody right now after Sheriff's deputies say he killed one person and injured two others including a state trooper.
OHP and several other agencies responded to a home near Fairland just east of Grand lake around 6:30 last night and remained on scene until Edwin Ball was in custody.
OHP says Ball killed at least one person and injured two others including a state trooper. That trooper was hit with shrapnel while being shot at but is expected to be okay. The Sheriff's office says Ball then barricaded himself in the home and stayed inside for about 9 hours.
They say they didn’t know if anyone else was inside so they took every precaution they could and called OHP’s tactical team and hostage negotiators to help.
“I know that the victim, both victims in this instance were not at the home with the suspect. Apparently there were three people in the vehicle who drove to the suspects home, I’m not sure what for. I know the two victims were struck and one has passed away from his injuries, the other was transported to a hospital,” said OHP Captain Timmons.
Ball will be booked on a complaint of first-degree murder and several other charges.
