As the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way people spend their Easter Sunday, some are using unique ways to spread a positive spirit and make this Easter special.
One Edmond neighborhood decided to call everyone outside to sing “Amazing Grace.”
“Very joyful,” Edmond resident Judy Hensley said. “I mean it put tears in my eyes that these lovely ladies all came out here and helped sing this.”
Hensley was hardly alone. Kristen English dressed as the Easter Bunny while her husband drove around the neighborhood waving to families on the street.
English wanted to bring some normalcy in these unprecedented times.
“It brings so much joy to me,” English said. “I couldn’t imagine not being able to go and see the Easter bunny as a young kid. They get to see it as I’m riding on a truck in their own neighborhood in front of their own house.”
Local restaurants have also decided to help out families. Whiskey Cake in Oklahoma City have been making survival kits since March. The restaurant took a step further and made Easter kits people can pick up curbside.
“We’ve got a tiny crew of six to eight people scrambling around trying to prep and cut all these hams,” Whiskey Cake Managing Partner Robb Lindsey said. “We’re doing thousands of pounds of hams and pot roast.”
Lindsey said seeing the impact of people supporting one another is something special.
“These small groups of communities are coming together. In a way, they’ve never been more hopeful,” Lindsey said.
