Oklahoma is just over a week away from the state's predicted peak for COVID-19.
The state department of health is predicting the exact date of the peak will be Tuesday, April 21.
At last check nearly 2,000 Oklahomans have been diagnosed with the virus.
The OSDH said these predictions were possible after expanded capacity at labs and opening more than 80 mobile testing locations across the state. Data from those sites gave experts better insight and ability to predict what's next for Oklahoma.
The state department of health is predicting by May 1 there will be 9,300 cases. If that holds true, in just the next few weeks Oklahoma would see 7,000 more people with the virus.
On the day of the peak, the department is projecting the number of new cases to be more than 400, number of deaths to be 22 and hospitalizations to be over 130.
In the last few weeks, the state has been seeing an increase of around 100 cases per day and the most reported deaths in a 24 hour period was 16. Between now and May 1, the OSDH is predicting Oklahoma will have more than 400 total deaths due to COVID-19.
The department's estimations also predicts more than 900 people will be hospitalized and over 450 will be in the ICU on the day of the peak.
The OSDH updates COVID-19 numbers daily at around 11 a.m.
