Storms are rolling into part of southeastern Kansas and may attempt to move into some sections of northeastern OK early this morning.

A severe thunderstorm watch is underway for part of northeastern OK and southeastern Kansas. Main threats will be damaging winds and heavy rainfall before the line weakens during the morning. Later this afternoon and tonight, a few additional storms may develop along southward moving outflows near or south of the metro.

Storm Zone

Additionally, another complex of storms may also develop and move near the metro early Friday morning. What happens this morning has a role in storm chances for later tonight and early Friday morning.

Some changes will be possible to the forecast depending upon the outcome of any morning storms. While the watch remains until 10 a.m., some model data weakens the storms as they move southeast. Not all locations will receive rainfall this morning.

Timeline For Thursday

Temps may drop into the 70s for those rain areas this morning before rebounding later into the upper 80s and lower 90s. Heat index values this afternoon may go from 99 to 106 in some spots, with higher values to the west. Locations to the west, will remain in the upper 90s today with heat index nearing 110.

Heat and humidity will continue to increase Friday and Saturday across eastern OK with some heat advisories likely for some areas. Heat Advisories today are posted across I-35 to the west. A weak back-door boundary brings northeast winds Sunday along with a minor drop in temperature and humidity. The ridge of high pressure is expected to expand and bring triple digit weather into eastern OK for several days next week.

Highs for today

There remains some question to the exact location and probability of storms for the next 36 hours as the ridge begins expanding and influencing more of eastern OK. If the ridge is stronger, the storms will remain to the east of most of the area Saturday and Sunday. At this point, we’re keeping some chances across northeastern OK.

Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.
