The Senior PGA Championship is set to tee off from Southern Hills next year, but preparations for the massive event are already underway.
Tulsa will be put in the national spotlight when the event takes place over Memorial Day weekend in 2021.
Tickets go on sale Thursday, and applications open to become one of nearly 1,600 volunteers for the event.
Organizers said they expect to have nearly 60,000 to 70,000 people in attendance for the event.
Officials also said this could contribute more than $40 million in revenue for Tulsa.
The director for the event, Bryan Karns, says Tulsa’s market and buy-in makes them is a major league city for sports.
“I think I have a unique perspective. The last decade I’ve been in major markets like Chicago, DC running events for the PGA of America; and I’ll tell you what for us the way we look at this there’s no better place than a market like Tulsa,” said Karns.
Southern Hills is also penciled in to host the PGA Championship in 2030.
