TULSA, Okla. -

Tulsa police have not disclosed the condition of a man involved in a Sunday morning officer-involved shooting.

Officers said they tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the man led them on a lengthy chase across town.

John Donaldson, an armed forces veteran, lives near the scene of the shooting.

"Man, I thought I had left that life behind," Donaldson said.

Donaldson woke up to gunshots outside his home this morning.

"Me and my wife were actually looking out the window and you could see the gunshots the gunshots, you know,” Donaldson said. “You could see the fire coming from the gun."

Tulsa police said they tried to stop the suspect near 61st and Peoria when he took off. Officers said a police helicopter was nearby, so they continued monitoring the lengthy chase from overhead.

The suspect reportedly then ended up on the Creek Turnpike. When the suspect entered the turnpike, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol became involved.

"He went all the way east and then onto 169 and north on 169,” TPD Capt. Jillian Phippen said. “Ultimately, we continued to follow, and he was stop sticked.”

The stop sticks helped deflate the suspect’s tires near 21st and 145th East Avenue, but the suspect then got out and began running on foot.

“A fight ensued, the suspect presented a knife in his hand, our officers deployed pepper balls as well as a taser and one of our officers did end up firing a round and shot the suspect," Phippen said.

According to Tulsa police, all the officers who were involved are OK.
