State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister addressed some of the concerns many parents and teachers have as districts get closer to starting a new semester.

Hofmeister said the state and local districts will be watching COVID-19 trends closely. She praised school districts that are taking extra measures to keep kids healthy.

“We certainly applaud those districts that have passed mask mandates,” Hofmeister said. “The goal, of course, is to keep that in-person learning going and the only way we can make certain that’s working is for people to mask up and social distance.”

Hofmeister does not think there should be another statewide school shutdown.
