A fire was reported around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night at the Pryor Creek Apartments.
Rickey Mauk lives in the building and told News On 6 he was watching TV in his apartment when he saw his neighbors apartment on fire.
He said he went in and pulled the neighbor out to safety.
Mauk said he went around to other units and said a maintenance worker used a fire extinguisher until fire fighters were able to get on the scene.
The fire caused smoke damage to most of the 12 units in the building.
Residents said five people were taken to the hospital to be checked out.
News On 6 was told one of the victims jumped from a window out of his second floor apartment and broke his ankle.
There is no word on what started the fire.
